New Programme Manager for China and ASEAN

Julia Thoma joined the DMAN team on 1st April 2016. She is responsible for the development and coordination of qualification programmes for participants from China and the ASEAN region.

Julia Thoma completed her master's study of Sinology I (language and literature), Sinology II (state and society) and political science at the University of Hamburg. Already during her studies, she collected Chinese experiences through a foreign semester at the Beijing Foreign Studies University and through a one-month research stay for her master’s thesis in Shanghai.

After professional qualifications in project management and in business administration, she worked more than 10 years as a project leader at a well-known association, which promotes the development and maintenance of economic, cultural and scientific contacts between Germany and China. Here she planned, applied and led different German-Chinese cooperation projects in the educational area.

“We welcome Julia Thoma at DMAN and look forward to a long and successful cooperation with her,” said Academy Director Ralf Othmer. “With her qualification and experience she will give our activities in China and the ASEAN region new momentum.”

In the DMAN programme area, responsibilities are now distributed as follows:

  • Andrea Lütthans:            Russia, CIS and Baltic states
  • Julia Thoma:                   China and ASEAN
  • Yousef Nahhas:              MENA (Middle East & North Africa)
